He was a Board Member of ElectriCities of NC and volunteered at First United Methodist Church, Gastonia. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Joel Hicks. Don was an active member of East Belmont Baptist Church and was also a fixture in the Adams Bluff neighborhood where he developed many friendships with his neighbors.
